About Montenegro

Montenegro, meaning "Black Mountain" is a small country in Southeastern Europe blending beautiful mountain scenery and breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea. It is perhaps, one of the world's most best kept secrets; a true European jet set destination and vacation locale. It's climate is a mix of Mediterranean summers and mild winters along the coastal regions, with an Alpine continental climate with heavy snowfall in the winter as you move inland and into higher elevations. The temperature averages 25°C (77°F) in summer and has over 230 days of sunshine.

It's coastline border sits along the Adriatic Sea, with it's mountainous topography providing the perfect vantage point for villas allowing both breathtaking views of it's natural mountain formations and endless blue seas. Montenegro is bordered by Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast and Albania to the southeast.

A former part of Serbia and Montenegro (also known as Yugoslavia), Montenegro became an independent country on June 3, 2006 making it one of the worlds youngest countries. While a well-known tourist destination in the 1980's, popular with stars such as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, today it remains perhaps one of the world's most secret getaway destinations. Recent visitors include Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, Michael Douglas and Paul McCartney; with regular yacht sightings in the Kotor marina.

With political instability in the 90's and a civil war with Yugoslavia, the tourism industry was hit hard. The upside to this however, has been depressed property prices and largely unspoiled beautiful coastline and natural beauty. In the 2000's however, tourism made an extremely strong rebound reaching almost pre-war levels. In 2009 Montenegro was listed in "10 Top Hot Spots of 2009" by Yahoo Travel, while being ranked as "the second fastest growing tourism market in the world" (falling just behind China). The country has become extremely attractive to foreign investors, both for second homes and vacation villas, as well as development projects and the hospitality sector. It's attractiveness to investors regularly ranking above most European countries and ranks favorably on the global scale. THe countries recent independence, beautiful scenery and natural beauty has created investment opportunities for years to come in various sectors such as hospitality, infrastructure and real estate.

Since achieving independence, MOntenegro now has a very stable political system and economy. Montenegro uses the Euro, making transactions easy and familiar for transplants from European Union nations and tourists alike. The country is an official candidate for membership in the European Union as well as an official candidate for membership in NATO. Montenegro is also a member of the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Council of Europe, the Central European Free Trade Agreement and a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean.

National Geographic Traveler (edited once in decade) features Montenegro among the "50 Places of a Lifetime", and Montenegrin seaside Sveti Stefan was used as the cover for the magazine. The coast region of Montenegro is considered one of the great new "discoveries" among world tourists. In January 2010, The New York Times ranked the Ulcinj South Coast region of Montenegro, including Velika Plaza, Ada Bojana, and the Hotel Mediteran of Ulcinj, as among the "Top 31 Places to Go in 2010" as part of a worldwide ranking of tourism destinations. It is listed every year by prestigious tourism guides like Lonely Planet as top touristic destination along with Greece, Spain and other world touristic places. The World Travel and Tourism Council estimate that by 2014, tourism will have grown 400% from 2004.
